Leicht Zerbrechlich
Freedom is not the grand finale of history. It is not guaranteed for all time," warned Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in his speech on Liberation Day 2025.
We have taken this idea to heart –
after our last album Libertad, which focused on freedom, we are now
turning our attention to things that need to be preserved.
Leicht
zerbrechlich (Easily Fragile) is a musical vision that gives hope: that
everything we hold dear does not necessarily have to slip away. In our
unmistakable style – characterised by multifaceted instrumentation and
crystal-clear, polyphonic vocals – we tell of a livable earth, of social
cohesion, human dignity and a culture of remembrance.
In addition,
there are new pieces of our own that poetically and poignantly show how
fragile the essentials can be – and how much it is worth standing up for
them.

Libertad
"Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose" sings Janis Joplin in the Kris Kristofferson song 'Me and Bobby McGee'. The pursuit of freedom has always driven people to bring about change in order to change their happiness for the better.
La Kejoca has long been collecting songs that deal with freedom, or precisely the lack of it. In their search, they found texts from the 19th century, when even in Europe it was not a matter of course to express one's opinion freely. They found poems from the time of the rise of National Socialism, songs from the persecution and oppression by authoritarian systems and pieces from the late 20th century that focus on personal freedom.
The finds are now available in their album 'Libertad', in which they were supported by Jens Kommnick (guitar, bouzouki), Michaela Haitz (bodhran), Gastón Bajarano (quena) and Jürgen Treyz (dobro, mixing & mastering) as guest musicians, among others.

In 2022, the album was honoured with the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics' Award):
Because they know exactly what they are doing! The three of them are not only gifted multi-instrumentalists, but also very good vocalists. What's more, they go back to their different roots, in Bolivia, Portugal and Friesland. Intelligent, courageous, convincing.

Winternacht
A collaboration between La Kejoca and the Frisian folk band Laway

Lucky Joker
The EP 'Lucky Joker' includes two original compositions: The track 'Lucky Joker' about having faith in yourself, which makes a lot of things easier once you do it, and the country song 'Weird Tuesday', which is about life 'on the road'.
Dougie McLean's famous ballad 'Caledonia' - a love song to his native Scotland - brings the trio to a close.

Fade In
'Titles that have one thing in common: Sophisticated, surprising arrangements that give the listener an hour of entertaining and, above all, varied music.''
As unusual as the selection of the 14 songs is, the variety of instruments is just as unusual. In addition to the typical folk and country instruments such as guitar, fiddle and flute, La Kejoca also use a turntable ladder, Celtic harp and blues harp.'
