La Kejoca - global folk

Since their freedom-themed album "Libertad", the trio LA KEJOCA has been one of the flagships of fine, handcrafted folk music in Germany.

Ke – Keno Brandt, Jo – Jonas Rölleke & Ca – Carmen Bangert play “Global Folk” with vocals, violin, whistles, hurdy-gurdy, banjolele, guitars & bass. At the end of 2015 they gave their first performances as part of "Musik in d' Lüchterkark", and in 2016 they played their first major concert at the "Venner Folk Frühling". Just half a year later they released their debut album "Fade in", and by 2017 they were already performing at major festivals across Germany, such as "Wacken Winter Nights", "Mystica Hamelon" and "Autumn Moon".

Since then, they have made a name for themselves in Germany with their “Global Folk”. In 2020 they were awarded the 1st "Dieter Wasilke Folk Promotion Prize", and in 2022 their CD "Libertad" received the coveted "German Record Critics’ Award".

Their international background with roots in South America, Portugal and Friesland flows into their musical work just as much as traditional lyrics and melodies, which they merge with their own new music. In their lyrics, they do not mince words and stand up for human rights, anti-fascism, equality, climate and environmental protection, freedom and tolerance.

Others about La Kejoca

The consistently superbly arranged and virtuously performed CD (Libertad) opens with a pre‑March text, "Ich bin ein freier Mensch und singe (I am a free human and sing)." With magnificent three-part a cappella harmony singing, a trademark of the band, interwoven with a lively, Celtic-tinged tune on guitar, bass, fiddle, whistle, Irish bouzouki and bodhràn.

Der Folker

Wonderful arrangements full of instrumental and vocal variety reach the heart, poetic images touch the soul, and political, stirring messages speak to the mind.

Jens Kommnick

They actually surprise with every single piece (…) and every track on the CD would truly deserve a lot of praise!
